VICE PRESIDENT – DR. MARIE LOURDES CHARLES, EDD, RN
Dr. Marie Lourdes Charles is an Assistant Professor at Pace University, College of Health Professions Lienhard School of Nursing where she teaches Community and Environmental Health Nursing. She has over 35 years of experience as a registered nurse including Public Health/Community Health Nurse for the past 25 years at the Visiting Nurse Service of New York. Since the Haitian earthquake of 2010, Dr. Charles has traveled to Haiti at least once a year to provide nursing care to various population groups through mobile clinics and educate community leaders on emergency preparedness and disaster management.
She provides educational programs to nursing students and clinic participants in Haiti. As a founding member and board member of Health Education Action League for Haiti (HEAL-Haiti), she is committed to the organization’s mission of empowering the youth of Haiti to care for their communities. Additionally, Dr. Charles is a member of the board of directors of AHRC-NYC, a 70-year-old organization dedicated to the care of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. At AHRC-NYC, Dr. Charles is the chairperson of the Family and Clinical Services Committee and the vice-chair of the Home Care Committee.
She holds membership at various professional organizations including Sigma Theta Tau International and the Association of Community Health Nursing Educators where she is a member of the Education Committee. Dr. Charles holds a Baccalaureate degree in Nursing Science from Hunter College, a Master of Arts in Nursing Education from Pace University, and Doctor of Education degree from Nova Southeastern University. Dr. Charles is a recipient of numerous awards including the Jefferson Award for Public Service in 2018.
