TREASURER – MARGARET LUE CHUNG THOMAS

TREASURER – MARGARET LUE CHUNG THOMAS

My name is Margaret Lue Chung Thomas. I was born and raised in Cap-Haitien, Haiti. I immigrated to the United States at the age of 13. I received my paralegal certificate, from City University of New York-Queens College, which was approved by the Bar Association of New York. Thereafter, I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting from Queens College. Early in my professional career, I worked as a paralegal for a small law firm in Queens, NY. During which time, I was primarily involved with real estate transactions and other legal matters. After the law firm, I worked at the Human Resources Administration (HRA) of the City of New York for over 20 years from which I retired. I am currently a practicing tax preparer approved by the Internal Revenue Service.

HRA was my first experience serving underserved populations. This opportunity changed my perspective on civic engagement and individual capacities to influence change and improve issues of public concern. Seeking further to impact underserved populations, I looked towards my native country and became involved with Health Education Action League for Haiti (HEAL Haiti). The mission of this nonprofit organization to train and prepare young leaders to respond to Haiti’s healthcare issues is a worthwhile endeavor. HEAL Haiti focuses on providing healthcare services, through mobile clinics, and health promotion and education to rural communities. This organization’s aim is in in keeping with my views regarding the importance of education and wellness.

My extensive background in finance allows me to serve as HEAL-Haiti’s treasurer for the past two years. Thus far, the organization has impacted the lives of thousands of nurses, healthcare providers and residents in the outskirts of Haiti. I believe HEAL-Haiti can exceed all its expectations and make significant contributions to the lives of underserved populations.
